The primitive trail is conducted over 4 days (3 nights). Days are spent walking through big 5 territory, led by experienced and knowledgeable guides. A typical day consists of ±4 hours of walking in the morning, a rest for lunch, and ±2/3 hours walking in the afternoon. This is all dependent on the collective fitness level of the group. Nights are spent sleeping under the stars (without tents) with participants taking turns to keep watch to ensure the safety of the group.

Water is obtained from digging in dry riverbeds. Trail participants will carry 2-3L of water each day, refilled in the morning and evenings.

Our primitive trails are centred on a “leave no trace” policy. Everything needed for the trail is carried by participants, and everything used is removed. At the end of your trail, you will have left nothing but footprints and taken nothing but memories with you!

A small fire will be started in the evenings, but is not big enough to cook on. All food must be cooked on a gas stove.
